touchscreen 300x225 Touch Screen Technology – How Does it Work?

Touch screen technology has been slowly becoming more common with the deployment of several new smart phones and computer screens. Mouse is not required, no ball control, and not the arrows either. With the touch of your finger, you can launch applications, make a phone call, a drawing, and more! Progress is being made increasingly easy, especially when it comes to smart phones, the screen is larger for better viewing. But how touch screen technology?

Touch screens are capable of operating with the hand, finger or stylus.

There are several types of touch screens:

Resistive (pressure sensitive)
Capacitive (electrically sensitive)
surface wave (SAW also known as acoustic noise sensitive)
Infrared (photo-sensitive)

resistive touch screens are composed of several thin layers, two thin metallic electrically conductive and are separated by a narrow margin. When pressure is applied to these layers, metal layers are connected. This causes a change in electrical current. This registers as a key event which is shown as a movement of the cursor or the selection of an icon or an application.

SAW technology uses ultrasonic waves that pass over a touch screen. When the group is affected, part of the wave is absorbed. This registers as a networking event due to change in the waves.

capacitive touch screens consist of an insulator covered with a transparent conductor. For the human body play this driver, which distorts the electrostatic field of the body and determines the location of the button.

Touch screen technology uses infrared LEDs and infrared detectors photos from around the edge of the screen. When a stylus, finger or an object interrupts the flow of the LEDs and photodetectors, creates a moving event.

Touch screen technology can be more complex than this simple explanation, but how to use touch screens is very simple and even fun!
